Los Angeles Mayor says he turned down offer to join Biden administration

Los Angeles Democrat Mayor Eric Garcetti revealed Thursday that he turned down an offer to join the Biden administration.

Garcetti did not reveal what specific role he had been offered.

Garcetti said “I let them know early this week that my city needs me now, I want to be here, and I need to be here.”

He added that he is in quarantine and his 9 year old daughter has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Our family is incredibly careful and what’s happening in my home this week is playing out across Los Angeles and this country,” he said.

According to reports, Garcetti was among names floated for Biden’s Secretary of Transportation, a role given to Pete Buttigieg.

However it’s not clear if that was the role he turned down of if it was a different role.

Thursday, Garcetti shared a dire warning, tweeting “Our hospitals are dangerously close to capacity. This is the most urgent moment of the pandemic — we have to hunker down, stay home as much as possible, and stop the spread. Every choice you make could have life-or-death consequences.”
