Illegal Gang Member Accused of Stabbing 14 Year Old Girl to Death as Part of MS-13 Initiation

A 15 year old illegal teen from El Salvador is accused of stabbing a 14 year old girl to death as part of his MS-13 gang initiation.

Per AJC, 15-year-old El Salvador native is accused of stabbing a girl to death as part of his initiation into a gang, according to Marietta police.

Brayan Segura, who also goes by the name Brayan Rivas, told police Wednesday he had stabbed the girl multiple times, his arrest warrant states. The teen also told investigators he contacted an “unknown person” to help him kill the girl at a Roswell Road apartment complex, according to police.

Segura, who lives in Marietta, then attempted to conceal the girl’s death, his warrant states.

“Said accused, knowing victim was already deceased and the whereabouts of her remains, concealed the victim’s death and the whereabouts of her remains by continuously lying to the police during the course of their investigation,” his warrant states.

On Thursday, Marietta investigators found the body of a 14-year-old girl in a creek behind The Arbors at East Cobb apartments off Roswell Road.

“He stated he tried to find her but was unable and that she had been missing for approximately two hours before he called 911 for help,” Marietta police said in an emailed statement.

Thursday morning, investigators located Segura, who told police he stabbed the girl as part of his initiation into the MS-13 street gang.

“According to the accused, the victim was (a member of the) 18th Street gang, which is a rival of MS-13,” his warrant states.

Thursday afternoon, the body of the 14-year-old girl, Janina Valenzuela of Marietta, was located in a nearby creek, according to police. An online fundraising page was created to assist her family with funeral costs.

Segura was arrested and charged with malice murder, aggravated assault, concealing the death of another and violation of Georgia’s gang law. He has been charged as an adult and was booked into the Cobb County jail, where he was being held without bond Friday.

Segura also has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold while investigators determine whether he is in the country legally.

The investigation into the girl’s death continued Friday, according to police. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Marietta police or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
