Ibram X argues being “not racist” is not good enough, says “to do nothing in the face of racism is to be racist”

In his new book “Be Antiracist: A Journal for Awareness, Reflection and Action,” a follow up from his 2019 popular book among progressives “How to Be an Antiracist,” Ibram X Kendi continues to argue that being “not racist” is not good enough.

In a new interview with Esquire Ibram X Kendi also says “The Status Quo Is Racism”

Esquire asked Kendi “Is it that this is such an important issue that you almost cannot be passive in it? Or is it that it’s people like Donald Trump, and as you put in your first book, [white supremacist] Richard Spencer, who have co-opted this idea of ‘not racist’?”

Kendi replied “I think it’s both. When you claim you’re not racist, you’re claiming the same conception of Donald Trump or of Richard Spencer, or a slave trader, or slave holder, or a coloniser or a segregationist, or someone who was ruling in apartheid South Africa.”

He continued “In other words, they were constantly claiming, “I’m not racist. I’m not doing anything wrong. If anything, the problem are those people of colour.” But secondly, I think it’s important for us to recognise that the status quo is racism. The status quo is inequality. The status quo is believing in some sort of racial hierarchy. And so when you do nothing in the face of the status quo, what happens to the status quo? It stays the same, right?”

“So to do nothing in the face of racism is to be racist, is to allow racism to persist. Because the only way that racism will be eliminated is if we challenge it,” he added.

Late September, Ibram X faced backlash over his tweets about Judge Amy Coney  Barrett’s adopted children.

Ibram wrote “Some White colonizers “adopted” Black children. They “civilized” these “savage” children in the “superior” ways of White people, while using them as props in their lifelong pictures of denial, while cutting the biological parents of these children out of the picture of humanity”

He continued “And whether this is Barrett or not is not the point. It is a belief too many White people have: if they have or adopt a child of color, then they can’t be racist.”

“I’m challenging the idea that White parents of kids of color are inherently “not racist” and the bots completely change what I’m saying to “White parents of kids of color are inherently racist.” These live and fake bots are good at their propaganda. Let’s not argue with them.” Ibram X writes in a third tweet.

Quite telling of his political views, Ibram Kendi is for packing the Supreme Court if Barrett is confirmed.

JT Lewis replied “Pray for Amy Coney Barrett’s family. There are some sick people like this guy who will stop at nothing to destroy them.”

Senator Tom Cotton fired back “Ibram Kendi launches a cruel, racist attack against Judge Barrett and her family. But what else would we expect from a fraud like him?”
