Gun sales on the rise across the U.S amid pandemic and anticipation of gun reform under Biden

According to a new report from The Hill, gun sales are on the rise across the U.S. as many anticipate Biden to enact gun reform policies.

Data released by the FBI showed a record number of background checks performed in the last year reaching over 39.6 million in 2020.

While the exact gun sales are not known, the report states that background checks serve as a good proxy.

Per The Hill “Biden’s platform includes banning the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and requiring background checks for all gun sales. Gun safety advocacy groups have praised his platform as one of the toughest of any presidential candidate.”

Rob Wilcox, deputy director of policy and strategy at Everytown for Gun Safety said “simply put, a Biden presidency is the gun lobby’s worst nightmare. But it’s a dream come true for anyone who cares about gun safety in America.”
