Speaking with Fox News on Sunday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said Democrat Nancy Pelosi’s job as House Speaker “is very much at risk,” which he attributed to ongoing turmoil within the Democratic Party regarding the impeachment of President Trump.
“Nancy Pelosi is riding a bucking, wild bronco called the Democratic caucus,” said Graham, explaining that Pelosi is drawing the ire of her liberal colleagues by remaining lukewarm to the notion of impeachment proceedings.
Graham explained, “Seventy percent of the Democratic base wants President Trump impeached,” pointing out that Pelosi “knows that impeachment would be political suicide, because there’s no reason to impeach the president.”
The Republican Senator went on to state his belief that Pelosi is aware that attempting to impeach Trump would lead to disastrous consequences for Democrats in 2020.
From The Hill:
“Her job is very much at risk,” Graham, a staunch defender of President Trump, said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Nancy Pelosi is riding a bucking, wild bronco called the Democratic caucus.”
“Seventy percent of the Democratic base wants President Trump impeached. She knows that impeachment would be political suicide because there’s no reason to impeach the president. So she’s trying to keep the party intact. If she goes down the impeachment road, Republicans take back the House, we keep the Senate, President Trump gets reelected.”
Pelosi has faced increased pressure from many members of her party in recent weeks to launch impeachment proceedings against the president.
The California lawmaker, however, has maintained that beginning proceedings is premature.
