Governor Abbott indicates he’ll sign Texas bill to ban abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy

Texas Governor Greg Abbott indicated he will sign a bill that would ban abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy.

Abbott tweeted Thursday:

The Texas Legislature PASSES the heartbeat bill.

It’s now on its way to my desk for signing.

Thank you to @SenBryanHughes & Rep. @ShelbySlawson for your leadership on this issue. #txlege

Per Newsmax “the bill was approved by Texas lawmakers on Thursday. According to The Texas Tribune, it bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected. The bill’s backers have said that can be as early as six weeks.”

“The bill provides for an exception in the case of medical emergencies, but not for rape or incest,” the report adds.
