GOP Senator Loeffler Slams Romney Over Signaling He’ll Side With Dems on Witnesses

GOP Senator Kelly Loeffler took to Twitter to blast Senator Mitt Romney, who signaled he’ll side with Democrats on allowing witnesses.

After 2 weeks, it’s clear that Democrats have no case for impeachment. Sadly, my colleague @SenatorRomney wants to appease the left by calling witnesses who will slander the @realDonaldTrump during their 15 minutes of fame. The circus is over. It’s time to move on!

AJC reports Georgia U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler has called out colleague and “friend” Sen. Mitt Romney after he voiced support for calling witnesses during the impeachment trial.

Romney, of Utah, told reporters today it is “increasingly likely” that enough Republican senators would join with Democrats to to support calling former national security advisor John Bolton as a witnesses.

“It’s important to be able to hear from John Bolton for us to be able to make an impartial judgment,” Romney said, according to Politico.

Loeffler and other Republicans are standing firm against calling Bolton or any other witnesses to testify, but she called out Romney for taking a different stand.

While speaking to reporters, Senator Mitt Romney said that ” it’s increasingly likely” that some Republicans will vote to hear testimony from former national security adviser John Bolton in the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

In addition, Romney signaled that Bolton’s testimony would factor into whether he votes to convict President Trump of abuse of power.

Mitt Romney:

I said for some time that I hope to be able to hear from John Bolton. I think with the story that came out yesterday, it’s increasingly apparent that it would be important to hear from John Bolton.

I of course will make a final decision on witnesses after we’ve not only heard from the prosecution but also the defense, but I think at this stage it’s pretty fair to say John Bolton has a relevant testimony to provide to those of us who are sitting in impartial justice.
