“The pollsters and the pundits cover elections as though they were horse races,” Mr Lichtman said in The New York Times‘ video. “But history tells us voters are not fooled by the tricks of the campaign. Voters vote pragmatically according to how well the party holding the White House has governed the country.”
His 13 categories, dubbed the “Keys to the White House”, has more to do with how the incumbent party has operated within the White House instead of the nominees in the current race.
Each category is presented with a true-false answer about the White House and incumbent president. If the incumbent gets more than statements that are false, it means the challenger – this time being Mr Biden – will win.
The keys suggested for this election that Mr Biden will take the presidency, Mr Lichtman said.
