Kurt Eichenwald, who describes himself as a NY Times bestselling author and is a former NY Times reporter is facing backlash for how he decided to attack first lady Melania Trump.
Commenting on Melania’s plan to renovate the White House Rose Garden, Eichenwald wrote “It’s a destruction of our history, something no other First Lady would have the gall to do.”
He added “This is the first time i’ve been furious that @FLOTUS is a foreigner. She has no right to wreck our history.”
First Lady Melania had tweeted photos and written “Excited to honor history & celebrate the future in our beautiful @WhiteHouse Rose Garden this evening. Thank you to all who helped renew this iconic & truly gorgeous space.”
Many Twitter users fired back.
One Twitter user replied “Settle down. The design was a replication of our history under the Kennedy administration. It is also now more ADA compliant, something Eunice Kennedy Schriver would have supported.”
Another replied “As a practicing Landscape Architect with over 25 years of experience I think it is very well done. I can’t imagine what degree of experience that
@kurteichenwald has that makes him some kind of expert at the design, construction or maintenance of gardens.”
Even Jake Tapper called Eichenwald’s comments “xenophobic and wrong.”
Agree. @kurteichenwald this is xenophobic and wrong. It’s bigotry.
