Durbin tells Barrett her nomination comes “under a cloud” from a President showing “contempt for the Constitution”

Moments ago, Democrat Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) suggested that the nomination of Barrett defies “traditions of senate” and “mutual respect” and is why it will not get the overwhelming support that past nominations of Scalia and Ginsburg achieved.

Durbin said “the reason those votes were so overwhelming was because people lived by the rules, they lived by the traditions of the Senate, and they had mutual respect for one another. We know now that this process does not adhere.”

Durbin also claimed to Barrett her nomination comes “under a cloud” and comes from a President who “shows contempt for the Constitution”

Alexandria DeSanctis commented “Durbin claims that Ginsburg and Scalia were confirmed by overwhelming majorities because the Senate was “following rules and traditions” back then. The Barrett nomination is breaking those rules, he says. Where was the overwhelming Democratic support for Gorsuch and Kavanaugh?”

Virginia Kruta wrote “So Dick Durbin says Justices Scalia and Ginsburg were treated with respect from both sides because that was before Republicans tried to rush the confirmation of #AmyConeyBarrettSCOTUS. What Democrats did to #Kavanaugh was just a preemptive strike then?”

Josh Hammer commented “Total gaslighting from Dick Durbin right now. The Democrats are uniquely responsible for the partisan weaponization of judicial nominations into the modern farce that they have become. Bork, Thomas, Estrada, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh…”

Buck Sexton wrote “Dick Durbin is wasting everyone’s time. It’s a whiny and pathetic speech.”
