After over 100 years of the iconic name “Eskimo Pie ice cream bar” Dreyer’s has announced the name will be retired and replaced with Edy’s pie.
In June, Dreyer’s announced they would change the name “Eskimo Pie” as some felt it was “derogatory” or “offensive.”
Elizabell Marquez, head of marketing for its parent Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream said “We are committed to being a part of the solution on racial equality, and recognize the term is derogatory.”
She added “this move is part of a larger review to ensure our company and brands reflect our people values.”
Customers can expect Edy’s Pie ice cream bars to be available early 20201.
In a statement to Fox News, Marquez said “we anticipate Edy’s Pie ice cream bars to be on shelf in early 2021. Our mission at Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream is to bring joy to everyday life with ice cream and we look forward to our Edy’s Pie ice cream bars continuing to do just that.”
The move follows the iconic brand “Uncle Ben’s” being changed to “Ben’s Original.”
Aunt Jemimas and Mrs. Buttersworth are also in the midst of branding changes.
