WATCH: Dolly Parton says she turned down receiving the Medal of Freedom from Trump twice, says it wasn’t political

While appearing on NBC’s Today show Monday Country legend Dolly Parton revealed that she refused the Presidential Medal of Freedom, considered the country’s highest civilian twice during the Trump administration.

“I couldn’t accept it because my husband was ill,” Parton said bout the first time it was offered “And then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of the COVID.”

Parton said she has now heard from the Biden administration about the honor under the new administration.

“Now I feel like if I take it, I’ll be doing politics, so I’m not sure,” she said.

“I don’t work for those awards. It’d be nice but I’m not sure that I even deserve it. But it’s a nice compliment for people to think that I might deserve it,” she added.
