DNC day one ratings considerably down from four years ago across networks

The DNC’s day one ratings were down considerable from four years ago, according to a new report from the Hollywood Reporter.

Given the event has become all virtual due to the pandemic and no longer has the excitement of a crowd and live speeches, the development is not all that surprising.

According to the report, the common hour-plus of coverage that began at 10pm EST averaged 18.68 million viewers on networks ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.

That is down roughly 28% from 4 years ago.

Network coverage suffered a greater loss of viewership than cable news as ABC, CBS, and NBC combined for about 6.7 million viewers, down 42% from the 11.6 million who watched day one of the 2016 DNC convention.
