DeSantis proposes law that makes driver not liable for injury, death if fleeing from mob to safety

Monday governor Ron DeSantis proposed wide ranging legislation aimed at promoting law and order.

Among the initiatives to combat rioting, looting and violence is “Prohibition of Obstructing Roadways.”

This makes it a 3rd degree felony to obstruct traffic during a unpermitted protest and “driver is not liable for injury or death caused if fleeing for safety from a mob.”

Introducing the act, DeSantis wrote “Today I announced bold legislation that creates new criminal offenses and increases penalties for those who target law enforcement and participate in violent or disorderly assemblies.”

He added “We will always stand with our men and women in uniform who keep our communities safe.”

Will Chamberlain wrote “This is fantastic and every Republican governor in the country should be pushing similar proposals”

Some Democrats accused DeSantis of evil and “fascism.”

One Twitter user replied “MLK’s marches were labelled as “disorderly assembly” in his day. These laws are evil and will be used for evil, full stop.”

Another wrote “This isn’t bold. It’s fascism. And a transparently pathetic attempt to kiss up to Trump.”
