Richard N. Komi, a Democrat New Hampshire State Rep. has resigned after offering an extremely bizarre defense of Joe Biden against allegations by Tara Reade.
In a now deleted tweet, Komi wrote
“Judging by the position of the female vagina, it will not be easy for anyone to just put their finger into the vagina unless their is some Cooperation from the female herself”
Komi then added “That is why I believe Tara Reade’s allegations is [sic] false. She is looking for attention.”
Komi’s Facebook page includes multiple photos of himself with Joe Biden.
The New Hampshire Republican party wrote on Twitter:
Per Inklink, when reached for comment on Friday evening, Komi had remorse for how he shared his opinion, but not for his support of Biden.
“I wish I had worded my words more appropriately. It was not intended to lessen the pain that sexual assault survivors face all their lives,” he said “I do not believe Joe (Biden) is the type of person who would do anything to hurt a woman.”
Representative Komi’s comment is wrong, inappropriate, and offensive to all Democrats, and does not reflect the values of our party,” said New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley.
According to Union Leader, Komi sent his letter of resignation to Shurtleff just after 1 a.m. Saturday. He had been serving his first term in the state legislature, and endorsed Biden’s campaign for president in July 2019.
“I am by this email offering my resignation as a member of the New Hampshire House,” Komi wrote in an email to Shurtleff, shared with the Union Leader.
“I also want to offer my sincere apologies to anybody whose feelings may have been hurt by the tweets,” Komi continued. “I am and will continue to be a supporter of victims of sexual and domestic assault. The tweets were very poorly worded and do not reflect who I am and what I stand for. I ask for the forgiveness of all who have been a victim of sexual or any other kind of assault. I in no way excuse my poor judgment on this matter and hope that every one will know that I am truly sorry for my mistakes.”
