Utah Republican Congressman-elect Burgess Owens will be among the growing group of House members to back Rep. Mo Brook’s objection to the electoral college vote next week.
Owens explained “if irregularities exist, we should examine and provide solutions to make sure our electoral process is accurate and represents the will of the people.”
He added “millions of Americans across this country are concerned about the electoral process and we do them a great disservice by merely ignoring their voices.”
Against the hopes of Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley announced Wednesday he will also object to the certification, the first Senator to declare his intentions to do so on the record.
“At the very least, Congress should investigate allegations of voter fraud and adopt measures to secure the integrity of our elections. But Congress has so far failed to act,” Hawley said in a statement.
