CNN Analyst Blasted After Admitting He Fabricated Conversation Between GOP Senators

CNN Analyst and former Bill Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart got blasted on social media after admitting he made up a completely fake conversation he claimed to have overheard between two Republican Senators.

Lockhart tweeted

“Overheard convo between two Republican Senators who only watch Fox News. “is this stuff real? I haven’t heard any of this before. I thought it was all about a server. If half the stuff Schiff is saying is true, we’re up shit’s creek. Hope the White House has exculpatory evidence”

then later added:

Ok maybe I made up the convo, but you know that’s exactly what they’re thinking.

However the damage from the Fake News was already done. The original tweet now has over 9k retweets.

Some “blue check” Twitter users shared the original fake news tweet including Jennifer Rubin.

Many chimed in who did not find it funny, including Trump rapid response director Matt Wolking who wrote

“CNN employee @joelockhart is knowingly spreading lies and disinformation online just for the fun of it. This is what CNN pays him to do.

4,600 retweets for the lie, only 389 retweets for the admission that he made it up.”

In response, Lockhart tweeted:

Seems like I poked the bear today. The purveyors of Pizzagate and the Seth Rich conspiracy are lecturing me on honesty. I told a joke, you guys are a destructive joke that is killing our democracy. Other than that, hope you’re enjoying the trial and have a nice evening

Lockhart just referenced his controversial fabricated conversation “joke” tweet again, writing:

I have to say getting lectured by the Trump campaign and Breibart on the virtue of honesty is perhaps the funniest thing I’ve ever experienced. And don’t get me going on plagiarist Benny Johnson..stop please..this is too funny
