Canada expected to pass sweeping gun legislation, including allowing banning of handguns by municipalities

According to a new report from The Hill, Canada is expecting to pass sweeping gun reform legislation which will include allowing municipalities to ban handguns.

Per the report “Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the new measures on Tuesday, a sweeping package that builds on a ban of more than 1,500 assault-style firearms.”

In addition “another proposal would create “red flag” and “yellow flag” laws that would make it easier for concerned friends and relatives to petition courts for the immediate removal of a firearm or to ask a chief firearms officer to suspend and review a person’s license for firearms.”

Trudeau recently announced “We will move forward with a buy-back program in the coming months and complete the prohibition to ensure these weapons cannot be legally used, transported, bequeathed, transferred, or sold.”
