A group of Senate Democrats are seeking an investigation into Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, claiming they contributed to the January 6th US Capitol riot by spreading claims of election fraud.
“When Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley announced they would object to the counting of state-certified electors on January 6, 2021, they amplified claims of election fraud that had resulted in threats of violence against state and local officials around the country,” the letter states.
Per Newsmax “the letter demanded that the Ethics Committee offer recommendations for disciplinary action including expulsion or censure if warranted. The letter was signed by Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Ron Wyden of Oregon, Tina Smith of Minnesota, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, Tim Kaine of Virginia and Sherrod Brown of Ohio.”
Hawley fired back, calling the effort a “flagrant abuse of the Senate ethics process and a flagrant attempt to exact partisan revenge.”
“Democrats appear intent on weaponizing every tool at their disposal — including pushing an unconstitutional impeachment process — to further divide the country,” he added.
