BREAKING: Schumer announces House to transmit articles of impeachment to Senate Monday, says “Make no mistake: There will be a full trial”

Moments ago, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer announced the articles of impeachment will be transmitted to the Senate from the House Monday.

Schumer tweeted:

I have spoken to @SpeakerPelosi. The articles of impeachment will be delivered to the Senate on Monday.

Make no mistake: There will be a full trial. There will be a fair trial.

Schumer also tweeted:

The American people chose to retire four Republican Senators and elect a Democratic majority to this Senate.

Senator McConnell’s proposal for how to organize the Senate is unacceptable—and it won’t be accepted.

As well as:

We have three essential items on our plate:

Confirming President Biden’s cabinet and key officials.

Providing desperately needed COVID relief.

The second impeachment trial of Donald Trump.

The Senate must—and will—do all three.

Mitch McConnell had proposed impeachment be pushed until February. He also suggested a deal where the filibuster would be taken off the table.

Schumer is clearly rejecting both proposals.
