President Trump once referred to George P. Bush as the “only Bush who likes me.”
According to a new report from Dallas News, the younger Bush confirmed he plans to formally endorse Trump and said “President Trump is the only thing standing between America and socialism.”

Dallas News reports at least one notable member of the Bush political family plans to vote for President Donald Trump in November, even amid a well-known fissure between two of the most high-profile brands in the Republican Party.
Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush – son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and nephew of former President George W. Bush – told The Dallas Morning News that he will cast a ballot for Trump, reaffirming the support he gave to the billionaire in the 2016 election.
“President Trump is the only thing standing between America and socialism,” the younger Bush said in response to an inquiry from The News, also confirming that he plans to formally endorse Trump.
Asked to rate Trump’s presidency to date, George P. Bush said “it’s clear, Republican policies are working.”
“Even in a global pandemic where we have had to take unprecedented measures to protect public health, the economy is already returning,” said Bush, who is the only member of his family currently holding public office. “It’s clear, America and Texas will continue to be stronger than ever.”
The political preferences of the Bush family, along with other prominent Republicans, have garnered attention in recent days, particularly after a New York Times report, citing anonymous sources familiar with George W. Bush’s thinking, said the former president won’t support Trump’s reelection in 2020.
While George W. Bush didn’t vote for Trump in 2016, his spokesman, Freddy Ford, said this week that the Times report was “completely made up.”
“President Bush is retired from presidential politics and has not indicated how he will vote,” Ford said.
That denial, first reported by The Texas Tribune, didn’t escape the notice of Trump, who on Monday took to social media to share with his 81.9 million Twitter followers a story by The Daily Caller that rehashed the episode.
George P. Bush’s decision to again publicly back Trump will further spotlight the complicated relationship between the Bushes and the Trumps.
