Black sports columnist calls NFL plan to play Black national anthem “Pandering 101”

Appearing on CNN with Jake Tapper, Sports columnist LZ Granderson called the NFL’s plan to play the Black national anthem “pandering 101.”

Granderson is not the only one to be critical of the move. Congressional candidate Burgess Owens responded by tweeting “There is no “black national anthem”. Why does it feel like the country is trying to segregate again sometimes?”

TCO reported According to a new report on ESPN, before every Week 1 game, the NFL will play “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” known by some as the “Black national anthem.”

This song would be played before the “Star-Spangled Banner” according to the source.

Here is a video of the song from February of 2019:

Per ESPN, the NFL is also considering listing the names of victims on uniforms through decals on helmets or patches on jerseys.

The NFL also may produce educational programs about victims, among other plans.
