Biden’s Chances Jump in Prediction Markets After Buttigieg, Klobuchar Drop Out

Joe Biden’s Chances for winning the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination have jumped in the prediction betting markets of PredictIt, following news that Amy Klobuchar will drop out and endorse the former Vice President.

This follows Pete Buttigieg dropping out of the race Sunday, a move that most analysts also believe will benefit Biden most.

As you can see below, the change at the time of publication is -8 for Bernie and +10 for Biden.

Here you can see the markets reacting to the exact moment Klobuchar dropped out.

Betting odds have also spiked for Biden in other prediction markets, though RealClearPolitics does not track in real time so you can not yet see the effect of Klobuchar dropping out and her endorsement.

Analyst Nate Silver tweeted:

The safest thing is probably just to think of the nomination as a toss-up between Sanders and Biden now.

President Trump tweeted Sunday:

Pete Buttigieg is OUT. All of his SuperTuesday votes will go to Sleepy Joe Biden. Great timing. This is the REAL beginning of the Dems taking Bernie out of play – NO NOMINATION, AGAIN!
