Biden says he won’t cancel $50k in student debt despite Schumer and Warren push

President Biden has disappointed Democrats hoping he would move to cancel up to $50k in student debt by executive order.

“I will not make that happen,” Biden said at a Tuesday CNN town hall when asked if he’d support cancelling $50k in debt, adding it “depends on whether or not you go to a private or public university” and that he’s opposed to saying that he was going to “forgive the debt, billions of dollars of debt, for people who have gone to Harvard and Yale and Penn.”

Warren and Schumer issued a joint statement, with Warren tweeting “President Biden has the authority to cancel $50,000 of student loan [email protected] and I are urging him to act. Here’s our statement. ”
