Biden reaches 270 electoral college votes, will address nation

Joe Biden has reached 270 electoral votes further solidifying his position to become the next President of the United States.

The votes still need to be certified by a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6.

This will be overseen by VP Pence, who will announce the winner.

Trump said in November he would leave if the electoral college voted for Biden.

“Certainly I will, and you know that,” Trump said when asked by a reporter.

Joe Biden’s team has announced he will address the nation.

“In this battle for the soul of America, democracy prevailed,” the president-elect will say, according to excerpts of his speech released by Biden’s team. “We the People voted. Faith in our institutions held. The integrity of our elections remains intact.”

Biden will urge “now it is time to turn the page. To unite. To heal.”
