Joe Biden plucking 2 House Democrats for administration positions will make House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s already slim majority even slimmer.
Biden plans to nominate Marcia Fudge to lead HUD, currently an Ohio State Rep.
Meanwhile, Congressman Cedric Richmond of Louisiana’s 2nd district has been appointed director of the Office of Public Engagement.
While both are in safe blue districts, special elections will be held to fill the seats and until then Pelosi’s caucus will now consist of only 220 members.
This is now only a majority of 5 and 218 votes are needed to pass legislation.
Fudge commented on the effect of her being plucked for Biden’s administration by telling Politico “It’s tight.”
She added “Certainly I do think about it because I’m a part of this team, and I support this caucus! Certainly I’m in a safe district,” she continued “Whoever would come here would be a part of this team as well so that gives me some comfort.”
“I just have to hope that we can hold together long enough to make sure that something like that would happen if I should leave. Because right now Cedric is gone and so we’re down one, his seat will be a safe seat as well. So we’re just hopeful that if this works out the way we would like it to—that it’ll be OK,” she added.
Biden’s pick of Fudge to lead HUD does not come without some controversy. Fudge vouched for Lance T. Mason and Ohio Judge in 2015 who had already beaten his wife so badly that she had to have reconstructive surgery. 3 Years later he murdered her.
If confirmed, Fudge will replace Ben Carson.
Per DailyCaller “Mason, 53, was arrested in August 2014 on charges that he assaulted Fraser in front of their two daughters, who were 4 and 6 years old at the time. According to local news reports, court documents showed that Mason attacked Fraser in their SUV, punching her 20 times, slamming her head against the dashboard, and choking her.”
Mason even pushed Fraser out of the vehicle and drove off, according to court documents.
Regardless, Fudge wrote a character testimony calling Mason “a good man who made a very bad mistake.”
She even praised him by saying “I commend Lance for immediately recognizing that he needed help and entering counseling.”
Roughly 3 years later, after having been released from prison Mason murdered his wife, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to life in prison.
In 2019, a friend of Fraser’s confronted Fudge in a viral video, telling Fudge she has “blood is on your hands” and calling her “evil.”
