Despite President Trump’s lead in the red state of Texas, former Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke believes the lone star state is “Biden’s to lose.”
Trump has led Biden in the last 5 polls tracked by RealClearPolitics by a 2-5 point margin.
Appearing on “The Takeout” podcast, discussing the Presidential contest in Texas Beto said “my contention is that this is Biden’s to lose. And we’re not going to wait for the Biden campaign to wake up to that reality.”
Beto predicted more Biden campaign appearances in Texas before election day and said “please, by all means, expand this map and show us that we here in Texas are important to you. And we will respond in kind and turn out like you’ve never seen us turn out.”
He also pointed to his loss to Ted Cruz in the 2018 midterms that was closer than expected.
“In 2018, in the midterm year, a cycle that typically favors Republican turnout over Democratic performance, we got within two and a half points of Ted Cruz,” Beto said “That two and a half that I was down with Cruz was six points better than every major poll showed on the eve of that election.”
The Texas Democrat also acknowledged upsetting Trump in Texas would not be a cakewalk, saying “you’ve got to show up literally for everyone. If this stuff were easy, this state would be blue by now.”
