Ayanna Pressley calls for Biden “to grant clemency to 100 women in his first 100 days,” argues “intersection of policy and Black liberation is more than symbolic”

Friday, progressive “squad” member Ayanna Pressley called for President Biden to grant clemency to 100 women in 100 days.

She is joined in this call by fellow progressive “squad” member Rep. Cori Bush.

Pressley said while speaking at an event “intersection of policy and Black liberation is more than symbolic. It is an intentional decision to follow the lead of our foremothers. To speak to truth to power.”

“To tell President Biden to exercise his clemency authority,” she continued, arguing Biden can take this action “by the stroke of a pen.”

“When this country incarcerates Black women, their entire family suffers,” she added.

Pressley also argued the 100 women “are human beings deserving of dignity, and respect, and they deserve to be loved.”

“There is no justice in destroying lives,”she said.
