Amy Coney Barrett leads the prediction market of PredictIt on who will be Trump’s next Supreme Court nominee.
Barbara Lagoa is in 2nd, with others far behind.
A new report indicates Coney Barrett met with President Trump Monday.
According to Fox News “President Trump on Monday met with Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who sources say is the potential frontrunner to fill the vacant Supreme Court seat left following the death the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The news supported widespread speculation that emerged after Ginsburg’s death. Although Trump recently released a lengthy list of potential nominees, he appeared to narrow those down over the weekend when he said he wanted a woman to fill the spot.”
Barrett was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit by a 55-43 vote, despite concerns by Democrats about her Catholic faith.
“If you’re asking whether I take my faith seriously and I’m a faithful Catholic, I am,” Barrett said while responding to a question during her hearing “although I would stress that my personal church affiliation or my religious belief would not bear in the discharge of my duties as a judge.”
Trump also specifically spoke of Barbara Lagoa, who currently serves on the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Asked about possibly nominating Cuban-American Lagoa, Trump said “I may. She is highly thought of,” he said when asked about her. “I’m getting a lot of phone calls from a lot of people. she has a lot of support. I don’t know her but I hear she is outstanding,” he added.
“We’ll make a decision probably Saturday – but Friday or Saturday,” Trump told reporters.
