Alyssa Milano Sounds off on Portland “Police & federal agents are terrorizing the community”

Actress and activist Alyssa Milano has sounded off on the presence of federal law enforcement in Portland.

Milano wrote Tuesday:

1. What is happening with the #PortlandProtests should concern everyone. We are in a fight to save our democracy. People have been taking to the streets to protest against police brutality and systemic racism. Protestors are being abused for exercising their 1st amendment right.

2. Moms, dads, parents, kids, and more are chanting, singing, standing, marching, sitting, day after day and night after night to demand justice for the far too many Black lives taken by police. But their calls for change have only been met by even more brutality.

3. Police & federal agents are terrorizing the community, threatening lives, and attacking people simply for protesting police brutality. This is not law and order. This is lawlessness — it must be stopped. Trump’s lawlessness must end.

4. Please support the @ALCU and @ACLU_OR in their fight for Black lives and democracy.

Many countered Milano, with some pointing out many protesters in Portland have not been peaceful, a fact which has been well documented by the Portland police and video evidence.

One Twitter user wrote “No. Setting fires and destroying property, attacking LEO is NOT the exercise of 1st Amendment rights.”

Another Twitter user replied “I honestly don’t even think they know what they’re protesting about anymore. My personal black friends say they don’t like their style of protesting. They should just Go volunteer at black communities. They ain’t making any change just a mess.”

“1) We don’t live in a democracy, we live in a Constitutional Republic. 2) Burning buildings, throwing explosives, and assaulting people isnt exercising your 1st amendment rights, they are considered criminal acts by most sane people”

Monday, Progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) referred to law enforcement sent to Portland as “secret police” and declared “Federal law enforcement officers should have their identifying information displayed while on duty.”

AOC also announced she is introducing legislation to make this law.
